My Top 3 Tips For Longer, Healthier Hair

We are always striving for longer, healthier hair. First step for achieving longer, healthier hair is to establish a realistic hair goal, then maintain it.

  1. Get your hair cut every 4-6 weeks.

It is true and I have tested it out on myself by going to the salon for a haircut every 4 weeks. My hair feels so good, it is still growing, and when I do give myself a blow-out, it always looks good. Getting your hair cut regularly keeps your ends healthy. When your ends start to split, they split upwards, making it even worse. Also, when your ends are split , they become dry and it makes your hair knotty, causing even more breakage and damage.

  2. Protect your hair from the sun.

The sun is the worst and I have seen it with my own eyes when I started working on Kent Island. While it is fun and luxurious to be out on the boat soaking up the sun and enjoying the breeze of the wind - holy damage! When you are out in the sun, wear a hat or head scarf to protect your hair. On top of that, use a protective hair product like coconut oil (nature’s natural sun protectant), Bumble and Bumble’s Save the Day Fluid, or Klorane’s Protective Oil. I like to apply the product and then wrap my hair into a low bun.

  3. Do not over-process your hair.

Our social media is flooded with images of gorgeous hair, different hair trends and celebrities constantly and drastically changing their hair color. Over-bleaching your hair is the absolute worst you can do to it and anytime you are going lighter, you are bleaching it. Pick a hair color lane and stick to it. It is not damaging to stay blonde, but going from blonde to brown back to blonde, is where the issue of over-processing comes into play.
