3 Ways To Pump Up The Ponytail

Let’s be honest, most of us wear our hair up in a ponytail or messy bun 80% of the time. And that is okay. But, it gets a little boring, redundant and sloppy looking. Below are 3 super quick and easy ways to pump up the pony … and yes it includes a little teasing.

What you will need:

  • A good comb. I prefer the Cricket Carbon comb.

  • Hair ties. I like to get hair ties that match my hair color.

  • Hair spray. My favorite classic is Sebastian Shaper. For a more firm, not moving in a windstorm, hairspray, go for Bedhead Hard Head.

The Position

Depending on your mood - chic, smart, or playful - determines the position and style of your pony. Chic is a classic low pony, best for shorter hair or a low-bun. The smart is the mid pony, not too high, not too low. Playful is a cute, cheerful high pony - to enhance, wrap a piece of hair around the hair tie for a 1960’s vibe.

A Little Tease

Teasing the hair at the root helps hold the styled part or no part look in place. I only do one or two “pumps” or backcombs. For less of a tease, use the wide tooth part of your comb. After you tease, flip the hair back in place and use your comb to lightly smooth down the fly-aways.

TIP: YOU CAN ALSO TEASE YOUR PONY TAIL ONCE IT IS TIED UP TO GIVE AN LITTLE EXTRA OOMPH.

The Undone Look

This is for when your hair is already tied up in a ponytail. Stick all five fingers into your hair at the top of your head, fingertips facing your ponytail, palm of your hand at your forehead. Give a light pinch of all your fingers and gently slide your fingers out of your hair. Use your fingers to gently rake the hairs back towards your pony.
